A clutch – generally speaking – ensures the transmission of torque between different shafts. Every vehicle (unless it has an automated manual transmission) has a vehicle clutch, which provides the connection between the combustion engine and the vehicle's transmission. The clutch is operated with the foot via the corresponding pedal. The clutch usually consists of discs that have a pot-like shape and are pressed against each other by spring force. Both discs are connected to the engine. However, there is another disc between them, which in turn is torsionally rigidly connected to the transmission shaft. Every time you shift into a different gear, the connection between the engine and transmission must first be released and then reconnected. Today's vehicles usually have a so-called single-disc dry clutch, which is equipped with friction linings similar to those of brake pads .
Defective clutch
Of course, this part of a motor vehicle can also fail after a certain distance. However, if the vehicle is driven carefully—that is, with gentle engagement of the clutch and a minimal difference in engine speed and transmission speed—this distance can extend to as much as 150,000 kilometers. You can determine whether a clutch is defective or the clutch disc is excessively worn by pulling away from a standstill in third gear. If the engine then stalls, everything is fine; however, if it revs up, you should visit a workshop.

How to recognize a clutch kit malfunction
The part is examined in several stages. First, you should check its performance with the engine off. To do this, repeatedly press the clutch pedal and listen carefully. External noises such as knocks, squeaks, and rattles indicate wear on the clutch components.
After starting and warming up the engine, depress the clutch pedal and engage reverse gear. Unusual noises indicate wear on the clutch disc and pressure plate. The problem can also be suspected if the accelerator pedal is pressed in third gear, the engine speed increases, but the vehicle gains speed slowly. If noise, vibration, and rattling are heard when disengaging the clutch, the clutch release bearing is likely defective.
